Steam locomotive – CGFC 209

This locomotive was part of a series of nine units, numbered 201 to 209, acquired from the Belgian factory A. Energie of Marcinelle in two stages between 1923 and 1950. Unit 209 began service in February 1951. The first eight were owned by Compañía General de Ferrocarriles Catalanes, S.A. (CGFC), and unit 209 belonged to Carbones de Berga, S.A., but it was operated along with the others through a rental agreement.

The locomotives were intended for passenger and freight service between Barcelona, Manresa, and Igualada. Although they were powerful and fast locomotives, their high center of gravity forced them to limit their speed on sections with tighter curves.

In the late fifties, they began to be gradually replaced in passenger traffic by the arrival of diesel locomotives, and later they were also removed from freight services, being scrapped in the late sixties. Only locomotive 209 remained, belonging to Carbones de Berga, S.A. and due to a dispute between this company and the CGFC.

On July 26, 1995, FGC acquired it for the symbolic price of 209 pesetas and its operational restoration began immediately in Lleida, returning to the company's workshop in Martorell the following year, where it was finalized, until its inauguration on its first trip on March 9, 1997. It was christened with the name Monistrol. In anticipation of possible forest fires and because coal was used for combustion, which caused sparks through the chimney, in 2006 the coal was replaced with diesel fuel, incorporating a burner for liquid fuel, which eliminated any kind of spark. Aesthetically restored in 2023 by the Mora la Nova Museum, it was transferred to the "via mètrica" space.
