The origin of this series of four locomotives is the increase in traffic experienced by the Olot-Girona railway line in the mid-1920s, which with them allowed for the rationalization of operations, an increase in the load to be hauled, 75/135 tons in single traction or 140/240 tons in double traction, which represented an increase of nearly 50% compared to the previous locomotives and made it possible to split trains into freight and passenger sections, while increasing the speed of the latter. Until then, most trains were mixed freight and passenger trains. In 1959, with the arrival of the Ferrostal diesel multiple units, steam locomotives were largely relegated to freight service. On October 15, 1963, due to the company's deficit, it became part of EFE Explotación de Ferrocarriles por el Estado, the predecessor of FEVE.
Once the line was closed on July 15, 1969, locomotive No. 22 was set aside in the Amer depot, and shortly thereafter the Olot City Council requested it from FEVE and preserved it in one of the station's warehouses. In July 1986, an agreement between the Olot City Council, the locomotive's owner, and the Barcelona Railway Friends Association and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya was reached, ceding the locomotive to the latter two. It was moved to the Condel workshops in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona), where restoration began. In mid-September 1987, it was moved to the FGC workshops at Martorell-Enllaç for its commissioning, until 1988, in honor of the city that preserved it, it was named Olot and began running numerous tourist trains on the lines of the former Catalan Railways.
