63.039 is a representative wagon of a series of 86 identical wagons (63.001 to 63.086) that FGC put into service in 1986 to replace the old fleet of wooden and metallic wagons from CGFC and in accordance with its action plans for the modernization of its locomotive and freight wagon fleets.
It was built in 1986 by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S. A. (CAF) in Beasain (Basque Country). This wagon fleet was initially intended for the transport of potash, before the introduction of the 62,000 series hopper cars. However, for the rest of its useful life, it was used exclusively for the transport of common salt (wet-flotation salt) between the mines of S\u00faria (Bages) and the Solvay (later Solvyn) factory in Martorell (Baix Llobregat).
It remained in service until the end of June 2017, when FGC's transport of floating salt ended due to the closure of the mercury cell electrolysis plant, which was prohibited by European Union directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Restored in 2023, it is currently located at the FGC station in Martorell Central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
